Privacy and Cookie Policy
This policy explains HourSimple's current data practices, including email subscriptions, analytics, browser storage, advertising, and affiliate links.
Scope
This policy applies to HourSimple and its calculator, content, email-subscription, advertising, and affiliate features.
HourSimple does not currently operate a quote-request or lead-capture form. It therefore does not collect names, phone numbers, postal codes, or project details for transmission to service-provider lead partners. If that changes, the collection flow and this policy must be updated before launch.
Information we collect
Information you submit
- Future email updates: email address, signup status, source page, a consent-copy version, and signup or later unsubscribe timestamps. HourSimple does not currently ask for a topic, location, or postal code in this form.
- Contact messages: the email address, name or other details you choose to include when contacting HourSimple, plus the message and response history.
- Form metadata: submission time, source page, consent record, and technical details the form or email provider uses to process and secure the request.
Information collected automatically
- IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, approximate location, timestamps, requested pages, and security or server-log information.
- Referring URL and referrer classification, campaign parameters, session identifiers, page views, clicks, scrolling, navigation, and broad calculator interaction events.
- Analytics categories such as calculator ID, engine, locale, period length, display format, and whether certain controls were used. The calculator interface is masked from session-replay capture, but the analytics provider still receives technical and interaction data.
Browser storage and calculator entries
HourSimple uses localStorage or similar browser storage for theme, time-format, consent, and saved calculator preferences or values. These entries remain on the device until they are cleared by the user, the calculator controls, browser settings, or the browser itself. Separately, hosting, security, analytics, advertising, and affiliate services may collect the technical information described above.
Why we use information
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the website and calculators.
- To keep a requested future-updates list, prepare an appropriate confirmation or delivery process before sending begins, and honour deletion or later unsubscribe choices.
- To respond to privacy requests and other messages.
- To measure site usage, classify referrals, understand sessions and calculator interactions, prevent abuse, and assess content performance.
- To display and measure advertising and affiliate links when those features are active.
- To comply with legal obligations and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Who receives information
Information may be disclosed to service providers that host and secure the site, deliver email, provide analytics, serve or measure ads, administer affiliate programs, or support legal and compliance work. Advertising or affiliate activity may qualify as a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted-advertising disclosure under some laws even when no money is paid for the information.
HourSimple may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale of the business, subject to applicable safeguards.
Current providers and recipients
- Hosting, delivery, security, and email-list storage: Cloudflare, including Cloudflare Pages and D1.
- Analytics: Microsoft Clarity, loaded only after analytics consent.
- Affiliate partner: Deel may receive referral and transaction information when a visitor follows a clearly labeled affiliate link. Affiliate links use sponsored and nofollow attributes.
- Email delivery: no email-delivery provider is currently active. HourSimple must update this list before sending subscription email through a provider.
- Advertising: no advertising network is currently active. HourSimple must update this policy and consent configuration before activating one.
- Third-party lead partners: not applicable to HourSimple because it has no quote-request or lead-capture form.
Retention
Future-updates requests are retained in Cloudflare D1 while the request remains active, until HourSimple decides not to launch the updates, or until deletion is requested. Contact messages, consent records, analytics data, and technical logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here, subject to provider settings and legal requirements. Data may be deleted sooner when no longer needed. Limited records may be kept longer where reasonably necessary for security, legal obligations, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or documenting consent and opt-out requests.
Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may request access to personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, restriction or objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent. You may also opt out of marketing, targeted advertising, or disclosures treated as sale or sharing under applicable law.
- Access: request a copy and information about how it is used.
- Correction: identify the inaccurate item and the correction requested.
- Deletion: identify the records or service involved; legal exceptions may apply.
- Withdraw consent: use Cookie preferences for analytics and ads, use the unsubscribe link once email delivery begins, or contact HourSimple now to remove a saved email address.
Submit a request through the contact page or email [email protected]. State the right you want to exercise and the email address or context needed to locate the record. HourSimple may request proportionate identity verification and will respond within the period required by applicable law.
Quebec residents: Law 25
Quebec residents may request access to or rectification of their personal information and may withdraw consent where processing depends on consent. They may also have rights concerning portability, automated decisions, and cessation of dissemination or de-indexing in circumstances set by Quebec law. A withdrawal applies prospectively and may affect optional services such as analytics, advertising, or email updates.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland
Where the GDPR or comparable law applies, the legal bases may include consent for optional analytics, advertising, affiliate tracking, and marketing email; legitimate interests for site security, basic operations, and service improvement; steps requested before responding to a message; and compliance with legal obligations.
You may have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent, and complaint to your local supervisory authority. Which rights and legal bases apply depends on the circumstances and applicable law. Requests may be submitted through the contact page.
California residents: CCPA/CPRA
If the CCPA/CPRA applies to HourSimple, California residents may have rights to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, request deletion, request correction, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and receive equal service without discrimination for exercising those rights.
HourSimple may use the categories described in this policy, including identifiers, internet or electronic activity, approximate geolocation, and broad inferences such as category or referral classification, for the stated purposes. Where applicable law treats a disclosure as sale, sharing, or targeted advertising, use Cookie preferences or the contact page to submit an opt-out request. The consent manager also treats an enabled Global Privacy Control signal as an advertising opt-out.
Security, international processing, and children
HourSimple uses administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the site, but no transmission or storage method can be guaranteed completely secure. The providers listed above operate infrastructure in multiple locations and may process information outside a visitor's province, state, or country, where different laws may apply. Their own privacy terms describe their processing locations and safeguards.
HourSimple is not directed to children under 13 and is not intended to knowingly solicit their personal information. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted information should use the contact route to request review and deletion.
Changes and contact
Material changes will be posted on this page and reflected in the single effective-date and last-updated configuration used by the policy pages. Questions, complaints, or rights requests can be sent through the contact page.
